Born Maria Theresa Villiers in 1836, Mrs C.W. Earle first published her gardener's diary in 1925 after the death of her husband. Based in London, Mrs Earle escaped to her beloved Surrey home for the warmer six months of the year. Writing a seasonal memoir filled with advice, recipes, personal thoughts and records; her passion for country life, nature and her garden sustain her throughout the year. Written with charm and spontaneity, this is a personal and hugely readable narrative of a love of the gardener's world. Pot-Pourri from a Surrey Garden was a widely acclaimed and enormously popular book and was considered to have swayed public opinion towards naturalism. Mrs C. W. Earle died in 1925.
